Yamaha Authorized Service

Yamaha Outboard Maintenance Schedule

Yamaha is the most common outboard we touch — and it's the most predictable when it's maintained on schedule. Here's exactly what gets done at each interval, straight from twenty years of running them on the Treasure Coast.

20 HR

20-Hour Break-In Service

The first service on a new or repowered Yamaha outboard. Done right, it sets the engine up for a long, trouble-free life.

  • Initial engine oil & filter change (break-in oil out)
  • Lower unit gear oil change
  • Linkage, throttle, and shift cable inspection & lube
  • Torque check on engine and rigging hardware
  • Cooling system flush & telltale verification
  • Computer scan for fault codes accumulated during break-in
100 HR

100-Hour Annual Service

Yamaha's recommended yearly service for in-season outboards. Catches the small stuff before it grows.

  • Engine oil & filter change (Yamalube 4M / 10W-30)
  • Spark plug replacement (NGK or Yamaha OEM)
  • Primary & secondary fuel filter replacement (10-micron + onboard)
  • Lower unit gear oil change with magnetic plug inspection
  • Battery & charging system load test
  • Anode (zinc) inspection on midsection and lower unit
  • Visual rigging, hose, and clamp inspection
300 HR

300-Hour Major Service

The service that prevents overheats and salt-water damage. Skipping it is the #1 reason Yamahas get towed in.

  • Everything in the 100-hour service
  • Water pump impeller, housing, and key replacement
  • Thermostat(s) and poppet valve replacement
  • All sacrificial zinc anodes replaced
  • Powerhead corrosion inspection
  • Compression test (cylinder balance check)
  • Steering and tilt/trim fluid check
