5 min read·Local BoatingMaintenanceLagoonSaltwater

The Indian River Lagoon is brackish, warm, and surprisingly corrosive. Boats that get rinsed and flushed after every trip last 2-3x longer than the ones that don't.

After every trip

  • Flush the motor for 10 full minutes with fresh water
  • Rinse the entire boat — under hatches, in scuppers, around hinges
  • Wipe stainless rails with a microfiber to slow rust spotting
  • Open hatches to dry — closed wet hatches grow mold in 48 hours

Monthly

  • Spray hinges and latches with Corrosion-X or T9
  • Check anodes for 50% depletion
  • Inspect battery terminals — clean and grease as needed
  • Wax exposed gelcoat (Florida sun = oxidation)
